Root Scanner for Root Monitoring
Model CI-600

Root development and function are vitally important for plant adaptation in the environment. The CI-600 helps the researcher examine root activity and health which is critically necessary to facilitate the improvement of crop performance, especially in the face of environmental constraints. The CI-600 is the only instrument available that enables researchers to capture non-destructive, high resolution, digital images to observe the development and function of a living plant’s root system.

The CI-600:

  • Provides a high-resolution underground color image of living roots in the soil
  • Enables observation of root growth and behavior over time; one or multiple growing seasons
  • Portable and field ready for fast accurate root and soil images

Features
  • Super high-resolution image up to 188 million pixels
  • Linear scanning with no distortion
  • Each scan provides a 360-degree image (21.59 × 19.56cm)
  • Very portable and quick operation
  • Allows observing root growth and behavior during an entire growing season or longer
  • USB interface for laptop computer image storage

What's in the box?
CI-600 Root Scanner includes:
  • Scanner Head and Scanning Software
  • USB Connecting Cable
  • Three 6 foot Standard Clear Tubes with End Caps
  • Calibration Tube
  • Indicator Rod
  • Operation Manual and Software Manual
  • Carrying Case
  • Image Capture software for MS-Windows based computers
  • Optional Laptop Computer
  • Optional Imaging Analysis Software

How to use it
The CI-600 is designed for long-term root studies on living plants in the field. Install clear acrylic tubes within the study area prior to the growing season. When the plant begins to build a network of roots, images of the structure and behavior of the roots can be recorded and analyzed with an available root analysis software package. The CI-600 scanner head fits within the tubes to scan roots as they grow over time, providing nearly 360-degree high-resolution color images of soil and roots.
