Electrical-Heated Rain & Snow Gauge
model P-1500

The Model P-1500 Rain and Snow Gauge is used where 115V power is available and precipitation is often in the form of snow or rain. Precipitation falls in a 200 mm. diameter machined brass orifice and snow or hail is melted to flow into a specially designed surge conical container that feeds the tipping buckets at constant head. Melting of snow is done by the electrically-heated funnel at the orifice. Another heater is also mounted on the base of gauge and both units are controlled by an ajustable thermostat located inside the gauge.

As the gauge is thermally well insulated, ascending draft is minimized and catchment is therefore increased. When 0.20 mm. of precipitation has been collected, the bucket assembly tips, activates a magnetic reed switch and discharges the sample through the base of the gauge thereby protection, is used to operate data acquisition system having a switch closure input. All moving parts are chrome plated. A level is provided on the base for correct leveling of the unit.
