Ultrasonic Thickness Gauges

Elcometer offers a range of Ultrasonic Thickness Gauges affective for many applications. These robust, hand held instruments are used for measuring the thickness of materials where access to only one only side of the test piece is available.

MEASURING...
  • Ships hulls
  • Erosion in pipes
  • Storage tank wall thickness
  • Bottle and container walls
  • Many different materials can be measured such as steel, cast iron, plastic, epoxy resin and glass fibre.

    TECHNIQUE
Each material has a different sound velocity. A pulse of ultrasound is injected into the material by the probe. It travels to the far side of the item and returns as an echo. The time it travelled is measured and converted to a distance.

    CALIBRATION
    One point calibration
This method is used is measurements are to be taken over a large range of thickness.
    Two point calibration
This method allows for greater accuracy for measurements over a small range of thickness.
    Calibrate to known velocity
This is to allow the thickness of material to be identified if the sound velocity is known.

    FEATURES
  • Three calibration options
  • Hand held and robust
  • Comprehensive selection of transducers for different applications available
  • Backlight display on all versions.
  • Data output available on 206 and 206DL
  • Memory capacity of 1000 readings on 206DL
  • EDTS (Elcometer Data Tranfers Software) supplied free of charge with 206DL

  • GAUGE CAPACITIES
    High speed scan mode
Identifies the minimun thickness point over a large area by moving the transducer over the surface. While the transducer is in contact with the material being measured the smallest value is held in memory and displayed when scanning in complete. (Model C205, C206 and C206DL)
    Differencial mode
Displays the positive or negative difference between a pre-set nominal (target) thickness value and the actual measured value. (Model C206 and C206DL)
    Alarm mode
Allows the user to set a target so that an audible and visual alarm operates when taking measurements. If the measurement falls below a pre-set nominal (target) value a red LED will light and the bleeper sounds. A green LED will light to indicate an acceptable thickness. (Model C206 and C206DL)
    Data output
Allows the user to send data direct to a printer or PC. (Model C206 and C206DL)
    Data-logging
A storage capacity of 1000 measurements -- 10 files consisting of 100 sequential storage locations. Allows the user to send data direct to a printer or PC. (Model C206DL only)
    EDTS (Elcometer Data Transfer System)
PC data transfer utility including genrator of ASCII files and "data drop" add in for Microsoft Excel™ spreadsheets. (Model C206DL and optional with C206)
    EDCS (Elcometer Data Collection System)
Stand alone data management program with advance facilities for archiving, reporting, analysis and data export. (Model C206DL and optional with C206)
    Transducer probe selection
Elcometer have wide range of transducers to meet many application needs -- see data sheet.
