Stable pellets and high quality are an important prerequisite for a reliable analysis by x-ray fluorescence with the PP 40 RETSCH offers a tablet press capable of compressing the various materials in solid pellets with a smooth surface. PP 40 press has a system for individually regulating the pressure force developed in a range from 5 to 40 tonnes. Besides controlling the amount of force applied but also its setup time, hold and release. This reduces the internal stress to which is submitted the sample and ensures flawless difficult materials are pressed.

Principle Func onnment
The compaction process is to place a steel ring or an aluminum cup in the compression matrix of the PP 40 and introduce the sample through a hopper. The steel ring with the sample must then be slid under the compression plate and the process can then be initiated. During the rise time of the applied pressing force, the powder is compressed to the maximum until the density of the solid material. By properly adjusting the rise time of the pressing force, the air in the interstices of the starting powder can be discharged, which increases the stability of the pellet. The maximum pressure force to be maintained for a while so that the adhesion forces between the particles ensure perfect cohesion thereof and a maximum mechanical strength.

The PP 40 provides pre-selection of the pressure force holding time over a period of 600 seconds. During the pressing process the axial movement of the particles on the ring causes friction forces responsible for their part of the establishment of a state of multiaxial stress. This is why it is important to achieve a uniform decrease in strength as an abrupt release could lead to the destruction of the pellet. Time to drop the pressure force can be adjusted on the PP and 40 ensure a uniform reduction in stress.
